QTFN - Koala Crossing Project

Working in close collaboration with the Queensland Trust For Nature on their reserve near Peak Crossing, QLD we have been engaged to repair and rectify the primary property creek crossing, widen existing fire breaks through selective mulching of trees and scrub and conduct minor earthworks throughout to ensure track erosion is minimised.

We have mobilised our new Hitachi ZX85 tracked excavator with it’s full attachment load-out, making use of the tilt-hitch and grapple bucket for the creek adjacent works and the FAE mulching head for the fire-break component. The bulk of the erosion found will be repaired using the integrated dozer blade to shift soil back into place and compact using the rubber-pad tracks.

Before - Creek Crossing

The existing crossing was comprised of cement stabilised gravel built up over the natural bed - over time this led to an upstream dam and exacerbated downstream erosion due to the subsequent drop off and churn amongst tree roots.

After - creek crossing

Lowered a total of 48cm to the natural bed level, the revised crossing allows for unrestricted fish passage while allowing vehicular access atop the installed flexible concrete mats. 80 Lomandra seedlings were planted to secure the disturbed banks.
